Anti-burglary guidelines no. 1

Darkness and the absence of occupants offer extremely favourable conditions for criminal activity, but 80 % of break-ins, however,
occur during the daytime.

Prevention is better than cure ... as it costs less, it is an easy option ...

Five basic and effective pieces of advice to significantly limit the risk of an unwanted visit.

1. Leave a light on as soon as it starts to get dark, fitted with a timer to save energy.
2. Switch on music, even continuously during the daytime.

If you are away for a long time...

3. Get the post picked up by someone you trust.
4. Don’t disclose when you will be away on social media or on the answer machine.
5. Make sure the locks are appropriate and reliable, which a specialist company will happily advise you about or offer a free quotation.

Anti-burglary guidelines no. 2

Below, we are going to advise you about the range of basic security mechanisms that exist for apartments in order to improve the
security of your home on a very affordable budget.

Intrusion into an apartment is more difficult than a villa, the access points being far fewer.

An apartment is essentially equipped with two access points, the hall door and the French window or glazed sliding doors opening onto the balcony. In these guidelines, we are going to examine three different options that burglars have for gaining access via the hall door, which is a bit more difficult.

1. The hall door must at least be equipped with a reinforced hall strike plate and strong fitted hinges.

2. The cylinder lock must not go beyond the exterior side so that it cannot be torn off, a simple security escutcheon will do the trick.

3. A latch can be installed, but that won’t hold against the force of a shoulder, unless the screw of the latch strike plate is firmly anchored and well screwed in, which is not often the case ...

Of course, these improvements to your home are a basic security minimum, they will delay the intrusion but won’t prevent it in the best way possible...

Anti-burglary guidelines no. 3

Below, we are going to advise you about the range of basic security devices that exist for apartments in order to improve the
security of your home on a medium budget.

Intrusion into an apartment is more difficult than a villa, the access points being far fewer, but 80% of burglars enter via the hall door.

An apartment is essentially equipped with two access points, the hall door and the French window or glazed sliding doors giving onto the balcony. In these guidelines, we are going to examine three different options that burglars have for gaining access via the hall door, which is more difficult.

1. A bit more onerous but effective, a security bar for a door where again the strike plates must be firmly fixed into the wall, if not it loses all its effectiveness. This is an excellent basic security measure for the price to make sure your door cannot be forced.

2. A multipoint band or lock increases the effectiveness a bit more but for a more significant outlay.

3. If you have items of significant value to protect, a reinforced door is highly effective. The price is high and so is appropriate for protecting your home in the best way possible. Depending on the items insured in the apartment, a reinforced door is highly recommended by insurance companies, or can even be obligatory.
